What’s better for a corporation than firing all of their skilled laborers?
Apparently, paying them all oodles of money to go away. After reporting a $38 Billion net loss last year, GM is apparently going to try to make cars without human assistance, as it just announced $140,000 buyout options for all 74,000 of its United Auto Workers (UAW) employees. The plan is to replace them with “lesser skilled workers” on the cheap.
And if there’s one thing I know about GM, it’s that their endless financial struggles are a direct result of poorly made, unappealing and wasteful products (no matter how many Escalades and Hummers you think you see driving around) — so casting off their “elite” level skilled craftsmen (UAW) should be just what the doctor ordered.
More plastic cars, please!

i have 1 word for what gm is doing to it’s workforce-Studebaker! in the 1960’s studebaker took all the money out of it’s company and gave it to it’s board and the productline sucked bad enough, it went bankrupt; but before it did, the execs even went so far as to screw all of it’s retirees out of their pensions and benefits! as a retiree from gm, i’ve seen how they’ve eaten themselves from the inside out. they’ve made products no one wants, sold off most of their subsidieries, and the 14th floor have followed the roger b. smith style of operating by slash and burn! if you think gm will cut the cost of a car by cheaper wages, look at the cars they build in mexico-they’re not any cheaper. i was proud building gm cars, and bought many of them, but unlike prior managers, these guys have NO loyalty anyone but themselves!!!! they dropped the oldsmobile line, maybe they’re going to replace them with the “golden hawk, or the avanti”!
